Hello! I'm Breanne, as you probably already know if you have made it this far, and if you are looking for a little bit more about me, you are in the right place, so keep reading! I consider myself a small-town Iowa girl(well at least I think a population of 800 constitutes small...joking) who loves to bake, especially when I get to share my passion with others. Over the years, I have learned not many things beat the feeling of putting a smile on someone's face doing something you love, which is one of the main reasons I absolutely love that God blessed me with a talent and passion for baking.
My baking journey began almost as soon as I could walk, because before I became the baker of the family, it was my mom. Growing up, I was lucky to have a mom who could make some of the coolest cakes for me and now I get to do that for other people, how awesome is that?! So you could say I learned from the best, although she would probably be modest and try to tell you otherwise. This meant that for most of my life, weekends and holidays were spent doing some type of baking, whether it was helping my mom stir in chocolate chips, trying to sneak some sugar cookie dough into my mouth before I got caught, or sitting around the table with my mom, aunt, and grandma decorating cookies to share with all of our closest friends and family. Some people send cards, but in this family, we send cookies!
I didn't really get involved in baking and decorating independently until about 6 years ago when I was in 8th grade. I can still remember my first order, and I think it is safe to say I have come a long way since then. Eventually orders started picking up, and my skills were slowly improving using all of the techniques I learned from my mom and by scrolling through the Internet. Baking has always been one of my favorite activities, especially when it comes to decorating! There is nothing I love more than coming up with creative designs or testing out new techniques.
However, it wasn't always a smooth journey. On many occasions, I became frustrated with myself for not having the abilities to bake or decorate at the level I expected of myself. As time went on, I practiced more and realized that you can't just decide to pick up a new hobby and then master everything overnight. It takes time and even today, while I love a lot of what I create, I still want to keep improving and learning! This is just a small part of why I chose to name the website "Life is What You Cake It," because to me, it means, if you want to succeed, you have to work for it and make your goals a reality, but also, your happiness lies within your way of thinking, so it is up to you to make the best out of what ever situation you are in. Then I knew I had to include some type of baking pun!
Oh and I can't forget about my favorite dish-washer and taste-tester! I know I'm not making steak or spicy-hot Cheetos, so thanks to the best dad and brother for letting me get in their way and make a mess of the kitchen anyway!
I am now starting my 4th and final year at Iowa State University, but I still manage to find time to bake every now and then, whether it is on the weekends or at home during breaks! Anyway, that is a little bit about me, so I hope you enjoy!
